On Thanksgiving Day I love to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, make my famous gluten-free stuffing, eat my mom’s famous cranberries and indulge in pumpkin pie. I enjoy and eat all that I want because thanksgiving signals one thing: Taos is open and I can ski.

If you haven’t planned on hitting the slopes this Thanksgiving weekend in New Mexico—YOU SHOULD.

Here’s why:

Taos was dumped on over the weekend and will have the backside open (but Kachina lift will not be operating).

Red River will be open top to bottom.

Sipapu is also open and looks beautiful. Plus they have a mini park for the moment.

Plus you burn off all your calories from turkey day! So enjoy all your turkey, stuffing, pie, etc. and burn it all off the next day!

You read that right, ski bums. Snow has hit the Land of Enchantment.

Red River posted this photo on Instagram this morning, showing the fresh snow, which fell in the area last night.

So what does that mean for our upcoming ski season? Good things my friends, it can only mean good things.

If you are into this sort of thing, the Farmers Almanac believes that we will have a spectacular ski season. Plus, a random lady at the grocery store told me that she sees a wet winter ahead as well. And who doesn’t believe a random lady?

In any case, I am ordering new gear for this upcoming season and enjoying my pumpkin coffee. What are you up to now that snow has fallen?
